Finding the Right Storage Size for Your Needs

When it comes to choosing the right storage container, making sure you have enough space is key. We offer a range of container sizes to meet a variety of storage needs, but selecting the best option for you depends on a few important factors. Here’s a guide to help you figure out which container is right for you.

What Do You Plan to Store?

The first step in choosing the right storage size is understanding what you plan to store. Start by making a list of everything you need to store, whether it’s furniture, boxes, equipment, or tools. Consider whether you’ll be adding more items over time or storing things for the long term. With an idea of what you need to store, we can recommend a storage container size that best suits your needs. Having a clear idea of your items will also help you avoid choosing a space that’s either too large or too small for your requirements.

Measure Your Items

Storage containers are measured by floor space, and understanding how much space your items will take up is essential. To get the most out of your container, think about how your items can be stacked or arranged to maximise space. For instance, if you’re storing boxes, they can often be safely stacked several levels high, freeing up room for other items.

Before making your decision, it’s a good idea to measure larger items like furniture or appliances. Once you have those measurements, you’ll have a much clearer picture of the space you’ll need, allowing you to select a container that will comfortably fit everything.

Storage Containers are Great for a Variety of Items and Purposes

With 3 sizes available, our storage containers can suit a variety of needs. Our 3m long containers are perfect for storing smaller household items, such as seasonal decorations, sporting equipment, or a small amount of furniture. They are also perfect for storing additional business items. If you’re doing a home renovation or moving house, the 6m container offers more space for things like furniture, boxes, or appliances. We recommend this size container for the contents of a 2-3 bedroom home. For larger storage needs, our 12m containers are spacious enough to hold the contents of a 3-4 bedroom home or large equipment. For more details on our containers, head over to our Prices & Sizes page.

If you need a smaller unit or something closer to the city for lighter storage, consider checking out BG Self Storage. It’s an excellent option for those looking to store just a few items or personal belongings without needing a full-sized container.

What Won’t Fit in a Storage Container

While our storage containers are versatile, there are certain things that won’t fit or aren’t suitable for container storage. For instance, motor vehicles, caravans, or boats won’t fit in the standard container sizes we offer.

Our containers are perfect for general storage needs, but for these larger items, you’ll need to seek a specialised facility.

View the Storage Container Beforehand

It’s always a good idea to view your storage container in person before moving your items in. This allows you to get a feel for the space and see exactly how your belongings will fit. If you’re not sure how much space you’ll need, being able to physically assess the container can make a big difference. You can also bring a tape measure and take some measurements to make sure your larger items will comfortably fit.

Consider What You Need in the Future

When selecting a storage container, it’s also worth thinking about your future storage needs. If you plan on adding more items over time or have long-term storage in mind, it might be smart to choose a slightly larger container than you initially think you need. This will save you the hassle of moving to a bigger unit down the track. However, if your storage needs do grow, we make it easy to upgrade to a larger container, or additional containers. Simply give us a call, and we’ll arrange the move to a larger unit with as little disruption as possible.

Choosing the right container size is essential for a smooth and stress-free storage experience. If you’re unsure of what size you need, we’re always here to help with recommendations based on your specific requirements.
